The Alamance County Courthouse was built in 1924 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  This complete renovation required substantial planning to preserve and respect the historical and judicial importance of the building and spaces.

The courthouse was originally built without a cooling system and the structural elements precluded most types of HVAC equipment.  A Mitsubishi City-Multi VRF system was selected to minimize penetrations through walls and floors and provide almost completely silent cooling to the courtroom.  Heating in the courtroom is now provided by fin-tube convectors, in place of the original recessed radiators, with custom cut front grilles that completely disguise the equipment.  New electronically controlled lighting and window treatments add to the energy management program.  Alamance County reports this is the most energy efficient building the county owns.
